I have to admit this took me a long time to read, and I am not sure whether that was because I was finding the story slow or because I didn’t want it to end. It might have been a bit of both. Everything comes to a climactic end in this book. We see all the characters in this book from previous ones, and we are introduced to some new characters as well.

The Amber Spyglass starts off just after The Subtle Knife, and we see will on his search for Lyra. It takes him to different worlds where he is put in mortal danger and finally learns who the enemy really is. One of my favourite moments is when Will meets Iorek Byrnison, the king of the bears. That was such a great chapter. We also got to see into Marisa Coulter’s head, and that was interesting. She truly does love Lyra and wants to protect her. She doesn’t know where this sudden burst of love came from, though, but she would do anything to protect her.

This book has so much going on, from battles with angels to a journey to the land of the dead. Some of it was confusing and never truly explained. The ending was so shocking; I thought it was nearly over after a specific event, but then it kept on going, and I was like, what’s going on. Then THAT happened, and I was really sad because it had to happen the moment when they were happiest, and it was so heartbreaking.

Till Next Time
