Middle-Grade Contemporary Fantasy

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This middle-grade was really great and perfect for fans of Percy Jackson, it really gave me that feeling that all Rick Riordan books give me. I loved the characters, Alex, Zoey, Bridgit and Anil. The plot centres on Alex, a young boy who has feared water his entire life as it has always tried to kill him. His best friend, Zoey, is an inventor although most of her inventions has a tendency to blow up.

When Alex takes up the responsibility of rescuing a water dragon they team up with Anil and Alex’s sister, Bridgit, who is a strong weightlifter. They make plans to rescue that don’t go to plan, and they are thwarted by evil polluting poachers. The Mayor of the seaside town created The Station and while many of the town residents try to prove that it is polluting the Ocean, all are thwarted by the security hired by the Mayor. Until Zoey and a little science kit are able to prove that there is something in the water by The Station.

The sea creatures we encounter on their adventure as so cute, from the Octopus to the Otters, they are all sweet animals that just want to save the Water Dragon and protect their Ocean. The Water Dragon is ancient and majestic, the humans did wrong by him after he gave them so much and he has hated them ever since but he needs Alex’s help, I loved the bond they have, and the reason why is so great. They are able to lay their grievances aside to help each other.
